Easy Sensory Play: Shell and Rice Sensory Bin
Sensory play is always important to have. On some of the long summer days that get a little too hot to be outside. I want to have something inside for my girls to do.
We do sensory bins just for that. This is simple and easy to put together. It also makes a great beach themed activity.

What is a sensory bin?
A sensory bin is typically a plastic tub or container filled with carefully selected materials and objects to stimulate the senses of children in preschool.
Sensory bins might have rice, water beads, corn, beans, or other types filled with small items.

How we Used this Rice and Shell Sensory Bin
We love playing through the sensory bins and just having fun with them. We do tons of just open play with these bins.
One of our favorite activities is the scoop and poor. And it is fun because you can change up the different shells to see how much rice you get. It is a great way to work in some fine motor while you hold the small shells.
Another fun activity that we did was to fill the big shells with rice by using the smaller shells. We counting how many shells it took. It was fun to see the differences in the sizes of shells and how many scoops it would be.
You can also use the shells to make seashell art for kids.
This is just one simple way to play with the bin. There are so many open-ended ways to play.
