Fall Color Water Bead Search
We have been exploring the colors of red, yellow and orange this fall. One thing we did during this time was a fun water bead sensory bin gem hunt! This is a fun activity for looking for colored glass gems in clear water beads. This was tons of sensory filled fun.
This is great to see how the clear water beads reflect the colors in the bin. We learned about how clear allows you to see other colors through them. This was also a great fine motor activity as they had to pick out the glass gems from the different sizes of clear water beads.
I set up the water beads ahead of time. I made sure we had two packages of clear beads in the bin. I poured and mixed up the glass gems in the bin. This was TONS of fun to do for me.
What you need for this activity: clear water beads, red glass gems
, orange glass gems
and yellow glass gems
. (You could use any color of the glass gems.)

They started pouring through the water beads and quickly learned that the gems was not always right where they thought it would be. They would bring up hand fulls of glass gems and water bead. Then was a change of sorting them out. They had to pick between the water beads and the glass gems that were slippery.

They had to get clever and work together at times to get the beads out and find them. Often they had to be creative as we got to the end of the beads. This took over and hour for them to dig out all the colored glass gems from the bin. They had to look at the side of he bin and even had me lift up the bin so they could look at the bottom.

After they got all the glass gems out we sorted them by the three colors. This was hard to see the difference between the red and orange, but they worked out how to figure the colors. They all had fun working together sorting the colors.

I had no idea they made water beads in fall colors. I have only found them in white and pink so far. This looks like it would be a lot of fun for the kids. I know my daughter would love something like this.
They don’t make them in all the colors, but if you read the post you will see we put glass gems in with clear water beads.
This is so simple and looks like such fun!
It is fun for them and me!
Thank you so much for linking this post up to The Sunday Showcase! This looks like a really fun activity!
