You are going to find a few ways to use the phonics ladders below. remember these are just a a few ideas and you can use them how you find works best for each child.
How to use a Blend Ladder
You are going to go down the ladder through all five vowel sounds. If need to take it a little slower just focus on one sound for the whole day. Let kids decide if they are ready to move on. Once your child has said the correct vowel sound, have them say the consonant sound.
Finally you will put the two sounds together. You can make this fun for kids by adding pointers or something fun to point to each of the letters on the ladder.

Setting Up an ABC Phonics Ladders
You can see a simple set up below for a alphabet ladder center. You have one of the ladders with lacing letters. You can use all the letters or just the consonants. A fun way to see if they know the differences between the letters and consonants.

Single Letter with the ABC Phonics Ladders
To start it is fun to take one letter through the ladder and see how the starting and ending sounds remain the same with the vowel changing. We talk about if they make a word or not.
You can give them several letters or just one to start.

Build CVC with the ABC Phonics Ladders
We use the lacing letters and make words with them. We might do several letters to make the words. I might give as many as 8 letters to see if they can make real words.
Another time have them make nonsense words.

Build CVCe & CVCC words with the ABC Phonics Ladders
Don’t forget CVCE and CVCC words. These will work nicely for them as well. Pick a blend or digraph that comes at the end of a word and see where it fits on the ladder.

They go well with the ABC Dot markers and the ABC Color Pages.

This is so cute! I’ve always loved your printables. I also really love the different colors of nail polish your daughter’s wearing =)
We did fingernail polish pattern learning the day before. They wanted to do something different with our patterns so we did 4 color of polish and then told me the pattern and we painted them on. I really did not think about that when we did pictures for this!
these are so great! thank you for sharing at Kids Learning Printables!
What a great idea. I have those letter tiles I am going to print this and start working on it with the kiddos! I love your girls nails. My daughter never uses just one color it’s always two or more. She likes making patterns when she does her nails. I think it’s super cute!
These look like a fun way to work on word families! Thanks for linking up this great resource with The Thoughtful Spot!
Abekah uses the same format in teaching phonics! We love word ladders! My pre-k daughter is reading phonetically now!
My girls use them at school and wanted something similar at home. So I took the images I have and made the ladders. I have some ladders for blends and digraphs as well.
I’m having a hard time printing these out. I get to the link, click it, everything appears fine. Then, when I go to print I get blank pages. Is there a reason for this? They look like they’re exactly what I need so I hope they are still a printable. Thank you!
Have you downloaded the files or are you printing from the site? Sometimes printing from the web and not having an updated adobe can cause problems. I would say try a different browser or download the files and print from your computer. The files are still there.
