Playdough mats are a great way for kids to build fine motor skills while teaching skills like ABCs, numbers, and shapes.

Ways to Use the Alphabet Playdough Mats Printable

I’m going to show a few ways we use the playdough mats. Just remember there is never just one way to use a printable. And playdough mats are very flexible in how you use them. I recommend that you print them on cardstock and laminate or put the mats in sheet protectors to keep them lasting a long time.

Setting up the ABC Play Dough Mat

You can see how I set up the playdough math. I have the letter playdough mat in a sheet protector with a dry eraser marker and playdough. It is really simple to set up. I like to keep the same layout when setting up a learning center.

Using the Playdough on the Letter Mat

You can see how we use playdough for the letters and trace them with a dry eraser marker. It is a super simple mat that is very clean so you can use it with any learning system.

Printing Playdough Mats on Colored Paper

Because these are black and white you can use colored paper! You can use the paper that matches the season, your current theme in the classroom or at home. It is a fun way to change things up from using white paper.

Using Putty on the Playdough Mats

If you want to switch things up you can use putty on the playdough mats. We have a collection that we used to play with but they also work great on playdough mats.

Using Small Objects on the Playdough Mat

If you don’t want to use playdough on the mats then use small items. You can find mini erasers that will work great on the mats. They are super fun to fill in the letters. Then you can use dry eraser markers on the tracing.

Coloring the Letter Playdough Mats

You could just color the mats. You can use crayons or markers and color the letters and then trace the letters with the crayons.

Using Playdough Mats in a Binder

You can store the mats in that binder. This makes an easy to use in a learning center. You can put the letter playdough mats that kids are working in a binder and give them the binder and items to use on the mats. They can do one page and move to the next page.
