What is a beginning sound?
A beginning sound is the first sound that a word makes.
So when you take the word apple. It starts with the letter ă sound. It is a short a sound. You can say that barn starts with a b sound.
So this printable works on looking at the pictures deciding what the beginning sound is and coloring the pictures based on the letter sound.
You can see that there are four letters on each page. Each letter has a color code with it. This is a simple no-prep worksheet for beginning sounds.
There are six color words used with the letters: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

You can color the candy with crayons. This is super easy and almost everyone has crayons. You can talk about the letters and the colors you are going to color the pictures for each letter sound.

Dot Marker the Beginning Sounds
If they don’t like coloring and you have dot markers this makes it super simple and fast to do the beginning sound worksheet. You get the four colors of dot markers you need, then dot the correct colors.
