Preparing the Ugly Ducking ABC Matching Printable
The Ugly Duckling letter matching printable is a great one to print on cardstock and laminate. This helps the cards stand up to repeated use in learning centers.
If you are going to use them one time or for a limited time then just print them on cardstock.
Setting up a Swan and Duck ABC Matching Center
You can see a simple set up below. You have the ponds with the pictures. Then on the side you have the letters you are going to match to the ponds. You can start with all the letters or just one letter case as well.
You want to make sure to use beginning letter sounds you are currently working on or reviewing.
Matching Both letters and Picture
You can have kids work on sorting both letters to the picture with the beginning sound that matches the picture. You can see that we put the letters below the picture. You can do that to keep it clean and easy to see.
You can also have them put the pictures on the pond as well. You can do which works best for the kids learning style.

Matching Uppercase Letters Only
Because you have two sets of letters you can do uppercase letter sorting only. You can see below we have just use the uppercase letters with the swan. It is a great way to focus on one letter at a time. And lots of learning systems start with uppercase or lowercase letters for kids.
Matching Lowercase Letters Only
You can see that we did lowercase only here. It works the same as uppercase above. It is great when you have a focus of one letter case. And you can always change this up. And you might want to use the letters you are learning to start.
Putting Letters in Alphabetical Order
The letter cards are also great for working on alphabetical order. It is fun when you are use the cards for more than one thing. And you can see we did the lowercase letters below, but you could do uppercase as well.
Of for a fun challenge mix up the uppercase and lowercase letters for kids to put them in order.
