What is Skip Counting?
Skip counting is a method of counting forward or backward by a number other than 1.
So that would be like skip counting by 2 and you would have the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 etc.
A significant portion of skip counting is also related to repeat addition and multiplication.
You skip count four times by two 2, 4, 6, 8. You get eight as the ending number. It is the same as 2+2+2+2=8 or 2×4=8.

Preparing the Frog Prince Skip Counting Strips

Laminate the Skip Counting Strips
Since we want to use these a lot in center we are going to laminate the skip counting strips. You can cut the skip counting strips and laminate or laminate and then cut.
You can see below we like to laminate and then cut out the strips.
Cut Them Out and put them on a Ring
After you have cutout the skip counting strips you can put them on a ring. This helps keep the tracking skip counting strips together.
We use our favorite hole punch for the punching holes in the strips.
You can keep the strips in sets like only skip counting by one number. Or mix them up with all three numbers.
Ways to Use the Frog Prince Skip Counting Strips Printables
You will see a few ways we have used the Frog Prince skip counting strips in different centers.
Writing on the Skip Counting Strips
Now If you love the idea of the strips but hate the idea of cutting the out. You can laminate them or put them in a sheet protector.
Then you use a dry erase markers to write the missing numbers on each line. This lets them work on the same skip counting at the same time.
Writing on the Skip Counting Strips
If you did the laminating strips on the rings you can give them one set of numbers or a mix of them all or all of them.
It depends on kids learning level. Younger kids might do best with one set. Older kids might do better with a mix of the numbers.
You can see how easy it is to write on the skip counting strips. And these are fun for skip counting math centers.
Pointing and Saying the Skip Counting Numbers
One activity you can do is have kids point to the numbers at the start of the strip. Have them move down the line and say the numbers and then have them tell you what number would be next.
This is a great way to start working on skip counting. And you can do this before you have kids start writing on the strips.
Using the Skip Counting Worksheet with The Skip Counting Strips
You can use the skip counting worksheet with the strips. You can give random strips for them to use or put the on a ring for them to flip through the strips.
They use the strips to fill out the skip counting worksheet. You will fill out one section for each tracing strips. They will fill in the starting numbers and the two numbers at the end. They will then write what the skip counting pattern is.
