What is Skip Counting?
Skip counting is working on adding the same number over and over. You have a pattern of adding or counting.
So if you skip counting by 2s, you have a pattern like, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and so forth. These patterns can be repeated for many numbers.
Most often, you skip count at least 12 times, but you can skip counting more.

Ways to Use the Ice Skate Skip Counting Number Printables
You are going to see some suggestion on how to prepare and how to use the skip counting number lines with kids.
Preparing the Skip Counting Strips
The ice skate skip counting number lines work best when printed on cardstock and laminated. That helps them last longer and then can be used in a center over and over.
You can keep the skip counting number lines together after you laminate them. Fi you want to have kids do all the skip counting practice with help

Or you can cut the skip counting number lines out for older kids to challenge them with their skip counting. You will want to do what you are going to use for your learning center.

The ice skate skip counting worksheet is black and white and be printed on white copy paper, but you can have fun and use colored paper as well.
Skip Counting with the Skip Counting Strips
You can can pull out one of the ice skate skip counting number lines. You can pick the number that you are working on. So if you are working on skip counting by 5 get one of the four skip counting number lines.
Then you can use a finger or a craft stick and point to each number and skip counting and then make sure to add in the missing numbers as you go. This is a fun way to see if they figure out the missing numbers as they skip count.
You can ask questions like:
– What is the skip counting pattern?
– What is the first number missing?
– What is the last Number missing?
– What number is the blue skate covering?
– What number is the green skate covering?
– What number is the orange skate covering?
– What number is the purple skate covering?
– What number is the pink skate covering?
If they need help with this you can always use the skip counting number line bookmarks.

Using Glass Gems with the Skip Counting Strips
The clear glass gems works great on the skip counting number line printables. You can say the number and then cover each number as they skip count down the line. You can ask them what are the missing numbers and then cover it. You can repeat any of the questions above while doing this.
After you place the glass gems you can have them take off the glass gems and say the numbers again. You can challenge older kids by having them go backwards instead of forward.

Say the Skip Counting Numbers that are Missing
You can also ask kids to just tell you the numbers on the strip that are missing. They can say just those numbers.
Or ask them after they finish the skip counting to tell you the missing numbers.
Using the Skip Counting Recording Sheet
The recording sheet is a great way to record the skip counting number lines that kids are using. They get to write out the whole skip counting numbers on the strip plus the record what the numbers where that was missing.
You can see that we kept one set of the skip counting number lines together so that they can use it in a learning center. This is great for kids just starting out skip counting. They will work on one skip counting number at a time. They can record all four skip counting number lines on the page.

You can also just do one skip counting strip at a time. You can mix up the three different skip counting strips. This is great for older kids for a challenge. And they will have fun
