I wanted to have some of the twelve basic shapes for kids to trace. These help them learn their shapes and work on fine motor skills.
Each of the shape worksheet is a clean page so kids can focus on the shape in the middle. They have the shape name and a spot where could write their names.
Shape Book To Read with the Shape Tracing Printables
One of our favorite shape books is Have You Seen My Monster? A Book of Shapes. It is a fun book with a boy looking for his monster and there is are shapes in color on each page. You can read the book and search for the shapes on each page.

Ways to use the Shape Tracing Pages
I love to have different ways to use this shape tracing printable. Whos says one way is the right way! So I like to show you just how you could use a printable.
Trace the Shape Printable
I always here but I just want to trace the shape. Well, guess what you can. You can use anything you want to trace the shape on the worksheet. It is loads of fun to use what kids love best at that time. It could be a crayons like below.
Maybe you want to use a markers, and even make it a change and use watercolors to trace it!
Rainbow Shape Tracing Worksheet
Now if you love the crayons idea, then why not rainbow trace the shape! give them a few crayons and let them trace it with colors over and over!
This makes for a great shape tracing worksheet for kids.
Use the Shape Trace Printable As a Fine Motor Mat
The shape tracing printable work great for fine motor shape mats as well. If you plan on reusing them a lot I recommend laminating them!
One way to make these hands-on is to use clear counters. I love the clear ones because you can see the line through them. You could also use clear glass gems.
I love using mini erasers! You can get different ones for the season and make this a seasonal activity. Plus you could count how many erasers you used to outline the shape! You could also use counters for the hands-on item. We have some bear counters we love to use.
Use the Shape Trace Printable As a Playdough Mat
Don’t forget that the shape tracing printables can be playdough mats! Yup! You can make playdough snakes and outline the shape. You can see we put the shape in a sheet protector (PS this is how I store this shape printable). Then used the playdough for the shape.
Reuse the Shape Tracing Worksheet
You can put the shape tracing printables insheet protector or laminated. Then you can use dry eraser markers on them to trace the lines over and over!
