What are fractions?
It is a numerical quantity that is not a whole number. It is also a number divided into equal parts.
Examples of fractions are 1/2 or half of a whole number.
You can see fractions like 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/8, and 1/10. There are many different fractions that kids can work on.
This raindrop fraction center works on adding fractions to make a whole. It uses the fractions 1/2, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/8, & 1/10 for the adding.
Raindrop Fractions Printables
You can see the raindrop fractions. They have the numbers 1/2, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/8, and 1/10 on them. These are used to help answer the questions on the cloud center cards.

You have two types of fractions questions on the clouds. You have the same fraction to make a whole number and mixed fractions to make a whole number.
You can start with one set of cards for younger kids and use the mixed fractions for older kids.

You are going to see a few ways to use these raindrops by adding fractions to make the whole number printable.
Sort Fractions to Make a Whole Number
You can sort the fractions to the mats. Each mat has several fractions of each type so you can give them more and an easy set to make a whole number.
You can see the 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 fractions being used. You can use all the fractions or just the ones you are working on.
Using Fraction Help Mats With Raindrop Fractions
If they are struggling to figure out how many of each fraction will make the whole number use the fraction help mats. You can see the number line below and see how many parts of each make a whole.
So after they have made what they need for a whole number check it with the mats. You can use items on the mat to match the factions.
Build Fraction Puzzles to Check the Whole Number with Fractions
Another fun way to do this is with the fraction puzzles! There is a fraction puzzle for each fraction set. There is a small version and a large version.
You can see how they sorted five of the 1/5 for the mat. Then you can see it takes five puzzle pieces to make a whole picture.
Ways to Use the Raindrop Adding Mixed Fractions to Make Whole Printable
The second part of this printable is using mixed fractions that are similar to making whole numbers. This is a great way to add on to what kids learned with making whole numbers.
Sort Mixed Fractions to Make a Whole Number
You can start by sorting the fractions to make a whole number. If they did the version above then they might know already that four of the 1/4 make a whole and eight of the 1/8 make a whole.
They can then work on learning how to make the 1/4 and 1/8 fractions to make a whole.
Mixed Fractions to Make a Whole Number with the Puzzles
If they are struggling with just adding the fractions then you can add the fraction puzzles to help as well You give them the pieces for the fractions they are sorting. You can see they sorting the 1/5 and the 1/10 raindrops.
Then you can see how they used the fraction puzzles to see if it was right. You start with the smaller fraction numbers first. So you can see we used four 1/5 and two 1/10 fractions. And you can see how this works to build the puzzle.
Mixed Fractions with the Puzzles
You can keep using the puzzle and the raindrops to make different combinations. You can use the numbers and ideas in the set or work on to other mixed numbers like 1/2 and 1/6, 1/4 and 1/10.
