What is Telling Time?
It is the ability to look at a clock and tell time. There are many different types of clocks. You can tell time by an analog clock and a digital clock.

A simple way to work on matching hourly time for kids in kindergarten (ages 5 to 6) and first grade (ages 6 to 7).

Ways to Use the Skating Telling Time Matching Printables
You are going to see how we use the telling time matching printable and how we prepare it.
Preparing the Telling Time Printables
The Skating Telling Time Matching Printable is best printed on cardstock. This helps it last longer when you use it. If you are going to use it a lot them I recommend laminating the cards.
You can laminate and then cut or cut out and them laminate. Do what works best for your laminator.
Review the Telling Time Words and Cards with Kids
You can start using the cards with younger kids by telling them the telling time words and analog clock are. The printable is made such that you can cut it out and have the all the matching telling time cards together as well. It is a fun way to display the cards that all match for kids.
You can then point out how each of the cards match. You can even print the cards twice and have kids matching the cards to a set of cards together. This is a great telling time idea for younger kids. And you can have them say the words as they match the cards. So if they are sorting 1:00 they say 1 o’clock.
Set up a Telling Time Matching Center
You can set up a small telling time enter for kids. You can use just a few of the analog clocks and the cards to sort. This is a great way to limit the amount that kids will sort for kids who get overwhelmed with lots of items to sort.

You can also set it the matching center with all the telling time cards in the set. You can also add the telling time bookmarks. It is a great way to make sure you have matched all the correct telling time parts.

You could also place the cards below the clocks if that is easier for kids rather than on the rink with the hourly clock.

Matching Digital and Analog Time
You can also just limit what you are sorting and just sort the digital time to the analog clock on the rink. This would be great if that is your current focus with telling time.

Matching Analog Time with Telling Time Words
You can see that you can also sort the telling time words only as well. It is great to mix up how you use the cards. And this might be your focus at that time.

Use the Cards to Make a Clock
You can also use the cards to make a clock. This is great to see if they know the position of each of the telling time words on an analog clock. You can use any of the telling time printable cards in the set.
You could start with the analog clocks and then have kids sort the matching telling time cards as well.

Using the Telling Time Cards on the Telling Time Mat
You can also pull out the telling time mats with the cards. You can use any of the three cards in the set. They pull out the card and then draw the time on the mat.
You can do this for all the cards. It give them another way of working on time with the cards.
