Ways to Use the Ugly Duckling Ten Frame Addition Card Printables
I will show you some ways we have used the addition ten frame cards and recording sheet.
Preparing the Ten Frame Cards
We printed the ugly duckling ten frame addition cards on cardstock. You can also laminate them for repeated use and for writing the cards in a learning center.
These are fun to use over and over. And with two sets you can use the one that works best for your needs.
Setting up the Duck and Swan Ten Frame Addition Center
You can see a simple set up below with the addition ten frame cards. You have unifix cubes and a set of the cards. You can use any small items that you have as well. This time we used the version with only part of the equation filled in.
You can see below how you would fill in the rest of the ten frame to make the equation. You can talk about how the two parts make the number. You can also talk about number sense with seeing the ten frame and how it is filled out.
Using Glass Gems with the Ten Frame Cards
You canuse glass gems to cover the equation. This lets you see the pictures below as you do the addition and counting. You can use two colors. We used yellow glass gems and clear glass gems.
You se the yellow on the duck and the clear on the swans. A fun way to build the two parts of the equation and then solve the equation.
Reusing the Ten Frames in a Sheet Protector
You can also skip the whole cutting and laminating and put the page in a sheet protector. This allows you to build the equation and then write the answer on the page as well. We used clear counters for the rest of the equation.
Using Ugly Duckling Ten Frame Addition Recording Sheet
Now don’t forget there is an addition recording sheet. It has space for all 12 cards. You can do the cards in order or as you pull the cards.
Kids will fill the ten frame based on each card. Then they can write the equation below the ten frame. A great way to work on seeing and writing addition.
