What is Skip Counting?
Skip counting is working on adding the same number over and over. You have a pattern of adding or counting.
So if you skip counting by 2s, you have a pattern like, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and so forth. These patterns can be repeated for many numbers.
Most often, you skip count at least 12 times, but you can skip counting more.

You can see the one skip counting by 11 puzzles below. The skip counting by 11 is a bonus skip counting puzzle has 11 to 110. I threw in this extra puzzle because Veteran’s Day is on the 11th of November.

Preparing Skip Counting Puzzles & Puzzle Mat

I always laminate the puzzles. This helps them last longer. I like to laminate them before cutting them out. You can cut out and then laminate. It all depends on what works best for your laminator.

Preparing the Skip Counting Puzzle Mat
Another part of preparing the puzzles is the puzzle mat. This is a printable mat that you can use to help build the puzzles on. It has the space for the 10 pieces.
I like to laminate the mat and then put wall putty on it. This gives something for the puzzles to stick on.

You can see below how we have started to build the puzzle. We used the puzzle mat. It really does keep the puzzle in place an works great and you can reuse it.
You can have them say the numbers as they build the puzzle. You can have them say the numbers and then ask what is next or they can use the skip counting bookmarks.
So they say 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 is next.
Finished Skip Counting Puzzle
You can see a finished skip counting puzzle. You have skip counting 10 times on the puzzle and easy to see on the side of the puzzle.
You can have them point to the numbers and skip count the numbers forward and then have them do it backwards. Another way to work on verbal activity for skip counting with building the puzzles.
Mixed up Veteran’s Day Skip Counting Puzzle on Puzzle Mat
Another great idea for the skip counting puzzle idea is to mix up the puzzles. You can see below we have one of the puzzles on the skip counting mat all mixed up. Kids are to take the pieces off and put them in correct skip counting order. Another way to use the puzzles.
