Gross Motor: Alternating Feet on Stairs
Looking for a way to work on alternating on the stairs. This is a fun way to do it and get them engaged in what they are doing. Plus you get a little gross motor while doing it.

What you need: Stairs, different colored socks and toys or items that match the color of the socks.
We used dinosaur and pink socks.

The stairs where made into a pattern of dinosaur item then pink item all the way up the stairs.

The girls go up and down the stairs matching their socks to the pattern on the stairs.

Then they switch socks on their feet. The reason for changing is that it will not let them get to used to just using the same foot in a pattern. The switch can be hard after you have done the other for a while.

Then up and down they go again.

This is a good way to make a gross motor task more fun. As an alternative, I have taped pompoms to the tops of their feet and then matched pompoms. They girls love to gather colored items to match their socks.

WOW! As a pediatric physical therapist I love finding any new ideas to help children learn how to climb the stairs. This idea is AWESOME! Just pinned, tweeted and Facebook”ed” it all over the place. Thanks for your creativity.
I’m glad that you like it!
This is a great extension to the patterns with socks and yey my son could do this even without a sibling. Thanks for linking to Kids Co-op
SUPER IDEA …THANK YOU!!!
