What is a blend?
A blend is when two or more consonants are blended together, but the letters in blends all make a separate sound.
Bl would be an example of the consonant blend. So, the word blender has a blend of bl.
You sound out b and l sounds in the word.
Beginning blend examples are: bl, br, cl, cr, dr, fl, fr, gl, gr, pl, pr, sc, sk, sl, sm, sn, sp, st, sw, tr.

Ways to Use the Blends I Spy Printable
You are doing to see a few ways that we have used the blends I spy worksheets.
Review the Blends Words on each Blend I Spy List
If you are just starting out with blends you might want to review the blend word list on each page. They will have a mix of the different blend words. You could also look at the blends on the words on the list.
L Blend Words: block, planet, clock, glue, float, clothes, glove, blender, sled
R Blend Words: dragon, fruit, crane, price, bread, tractor, graph, grapes, frog
S Blend Words: snake, space, scarf, steps, smile swan, ski, stamp, spider
Color the Beginning Blends on the List
You can go down the list of blend words and color the matching blends. It makes a super simple and fun blends review for kids. You will have one type of beginning blend on each page. So you can work on the L blends, r blends, and s blends individually.

Find Other Blends Words with Bookmarks
You can use the blends bookmarks to find other pictures that have that same beginning blends. Each blend has three pictures on the page for kids to find.
So go through the lists of blend words on the bookmarks and use them to help kids find more blend words.

Dot Marker the Beginning Blends on the List
You can use a dot marker to dot the pictures that match the blends words. Dot markers are simple and easy to use and might be quicker than coloring for some kids.
If you do this in a learning center you can have kids tell you what blend is in the word when they are dotting the pictures. So they see the word frog and then tell you it is a FR blend word.

Reuse the Blends I Spy Printable
You can reuse the pages by putting them in sheet protectors and using dry erase markers on them. That way you can circle the match and check out the word list and then use it again.
