Lunar Eclipse Sequencing Wreath Craft
A total lunar eclipse is coming and this is a great way to work on learning the phases of the lunar eclipse.
You can work on creating each phase of the lunar eclipse and then placing them around the wreath. And you can learn a little science and words for the lunar eclipse as well.
So have fun making a wreath and enjoying learning about a lunar eclipse.

The Lunar Eclipse Sequencing Wreath Craft is a great addition to the lunar eclipse activities and the wreath crafts on the site.
What Is a Lunar Eclipse?
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align so that the Moon passes into Earth’s shadow. There are three types of lunar eclipse: total lunar eclipse, partial lunar eclipse, and penumbral lunar eclipse.
Lunar Eclipse Sequencing Wreath Craft
This lunar eclipse sequencing wreath shows the different stages of the lunar eclipse. You start with a full moon and then work toward penumbral phase, umbral phase, total lunar eclipse, and then back to full moon again.
We used paper plates, circle punch, and paper to make the craft. This is really fun space and learning craft for kids.
Lunar Eclipse Books to Read
There are not a lot of book with just the lunar eclipse. But these book have information about solar and lunar in them.
Eclipse: Our Sky’s Most Dazzling Phenomenon has information about solar eclipse and lunar eclipse! And it is great to learn about both but you can read about one of ther other sa well.
The Sun Plays with the Moon: An Imaginative Introduction to the Lunar and Solar Eclipses is a fun story about the sun and moon playing and fun way to make make a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse.
You can also fine lunar eclipse videos to watch as well. Since a Lunar Eclipse happens at night.

How we made the Lunar Eclipse Sequencing Wreath Craft
You can see the steps below that we used to make the Lunar Eclipse Sequencing wreath craft.
Step 1: Paint the Paper Plate
You are going to use watercolor paint to paint the paper plate black. You can use some gray or mixes of blacks if you want. We just used black on the wreath.

Step 2: Punch out the Red and Silver Circles
We use the circle punch and punched out circles from the red and silver glitter paper.

We punched out 5 silver and 1 red for the wreath. We used the silver for the full moon the happens during a total lunar eclipse.

Step 3: Punch Out Black Circles
You are going to need to punch out some black circles. You need two circles for each wreath. You can have kids do this or do this in advance to have them ready for kids to use.

Step 4: Cut Out Silver Tissue Paper
We cut out the silver tissues paper. we did not use the circle punch because it is slick and did not punch well. We use one of the silver shapes to trace a circle on the paper and then cut it out.

Step 5: Make the Penumbral Phase of the Lunar Eclipse
We use the silver tissue paper and the silver circles to make the penumbral phases of the lunar eclipse. You are going to glue silver tissue paper on the silver cirlce. You are going to have it cove only part of the silver circle.
This is to mark the penumbral phases where there is a slight shadow that covers the moon.

After we glue silver on we cut off the extra hanging off the circle. You can cut it off from either side of the silver circle.

Step 6: Make the Umbral Phase of the Lunar Eclipse
Next you are going to make the umbral phase. This is where the moon enters the darker shadow on the Earth. And part of the moon looks black as it goes into this phase.
We glued the black on the silver circle.

Then we turned over the silver so the white is showing on the back and cut off the black that is extra.

Step 7: Place the Moons on the Paper Plate
Finally we placed the moons around the paper plate. We use the lunar bookmarks to make sure we got the order of the phases of the lunar eclipse right.

Look at your Lunar Eclipse Wreath with the Lunar Eclipse Bookmarks
You can see how we placed the moons around the wreath and how we got the wreath matches the order of the moon on the bookmark.
