Ocean Counters Sensory Bin

What happens when you child asks to play more with the counters? Put them in a sensory bin! We took the counters from the ocean mats and put it all in a sensory bin. They are so much fun and easy to do. This sensory bin took less than 2 minutes to put together.

I love when we can have fun with simple sensory play.

Each of these bins is really something they can have loads of free play with. I don’t make it something they have to do with any of the activities. In fact, the sensory bin will sit out for a week or more. That allows all my girls to play in it when they feel then need some more sensory.

We took all the counters we used for the Ocean Themed Counting Mats and put them into this sensory bin.

What you need for this bin: blue glass gems, rice and Learning Resources Under the Sea Ocean Counters

So this ended up being a mix of math and fine motor for us. The first activity she did was sort out all the animals and then sorted them by color. As she sorted the animals out she did some counting of the animals.

This fun project became a fun skip counting activity. We did some skip counting by 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12. This was fun and her older sisters joined her in the counting. It was fun and easy to do. I loved that this became such a fun math activity for them to do.

After the counting activity, she sorted all the items for the bin by color. She had tons of fun pulling everything out. It was fun to see what colors she did first and she said what ocean animals she was pulling out as well.

After she sorted all the color she put it back into the bin and made some fun design in the rice. This was fun to see her creative side as she decided what should go where in the bin.
