We have been busy having fun with our zoo themed activities. We all have favorite animals that we just love. One of those animals is the lion!
I’m always looking for fun crafts to do that we can spend time together doing. This torn paper lion craft is a simple and easy one for kids of all ages to make.
Plus, it is fun to see just how everyone can make theirs different.

The Paper Plate Lion Craft is a great addition to the zoo crafts and torn paper crafts on the site.
What is a torn paper craft?
A torn paper craft is a craft where kids tear off pieces of paper to make the craft.
You can use construction paper, scrapbook paper, or any type of paper to make the torn paper crafts. And having different colors of paper is fun!
Torn paper Plate Lion Craft
Lions are one of our favorite animals to see at the zoo! We always stop to see the big animals. One book we read with this craft was about lions. It was National Geographic Readers: Lions. I love this easy reader book series because of the pictures and information in the books.

How we made the Paper Plate Lion Craft
You will see all the steps below we used to make the lion craft. And you can work on the letter L at the same time with the Romping & Roaring L Pack: Lion.
Step 1: Dot Marker Paint the Paper Plate
We started off using the dot markers on our paper plates. You could paint them with something else if you wanted. We did this first so that the plates would dry fast.

Step 2: Punch Out Circles
While the paper plate was drying a bit we pulled out the white and black construction paper. We punched a big circle in the white and a smaller circle in the black. These made the eyes.

Step 3: Glue Eyes on the Plate
We then glued the eyes on our plates. Everyone had their own idea of how the eyes should look.

Step 4: Make the Nose and Mouth
We punched out a small pink circle, glued that one for the nose. We then drew on the mouth after with a marker.

Step 5: Tear Up the Yellow Scrapbook Paper And Glue on the Paper Plate
Then we tore up yellow scrapbooking paper to make the mane on the lion. This was fun. We all picked different colors of paper to use. We talked about how we would put the paper around the plate and each of us did our own way for it. It was fun to tear and glues the pieces. Plus this was great for building fine motor skills.

Step 6: Making Ears for the Lions
Now we needed ears for our lions and we punched a circle out that matched the mane and glued a small pink circle on it. Then we glued them on our plates.

Step 7: Draw the Whiskers on the Lions
The final step that we did was to add whiskers to our lions. You can do as many whiskers as you want. It was suggest at least three.
