Paper Roll Gross Motor Dice

I love to be creative with gross motor activities. And I also know that we all enjoy doing gross motor as much as we can.

Today, I have a fun gross motor activity using paper rolls! Yup, something you can find around the house. I know we tend to collect them so we can do activities with them.

This is a great gross motor activity for Earth Day as well! Because we are using something in the house before we recycle it. Plus if it gets switched you can find a replacement.

There are two dice in the set. You have one for the movements and one for speed. This allows you to mix up how you do it. We use the cube dice insets to make sure the dice last longer.

The Paper Roll Gross Movements

There are three simple movements that you can use for this activity. The movements are jumping, kicking, and walking around. They are simple and fun to do.

Jump: You jump over the paper roll.

Kick: You kick the paper roll. You can have them switch legs for the kicking. Be warned the paper rolls can go flying when kids are kicking!

Walk Around: You walk around the paper roll without knocking it over.

How we use this gross motor dice

I set up a line of paper rolls. We use the smaller and taller ones to give them a challenge. This allows you to set up one that meets the needs of your kid’s ages and ability. I also keep extra rolls around for it one gets squished.

You roll the die for the paper rolls in the line. So if you have three paper rolls you roll three times. Your rolls might look like jump, kick, and jump. So you jump over the first roll, kick the second roll, and jump the last roll. We love to roll the dice.

After they have the idea add the speed dice in! This is a great way to slow down or go faster on a movement. Just how slow can you jump over the roll. And it is fun to see a slow kick. But it is just as much fun to watch the fast movements and it changes up what they were doing.
