A sensory bin is typically a plastic tub or container filled with carefully selected materials and objects to stimulate the senses of children in preschool.

Ways to Use the Red, Yellow and Green Sensory Bin
You will see some ideas on how to use the sensory in but always remember that sensory bins are for play and kids need play.
Talk about the Three Colors of Apples
You can talk to kids that apples can come in three colors. It is great way to talk about different apples and while there are three color in the sensory bins.
Play in the Sensory Bin
You can always start out just playing in the sensory bin. The rice and colors make it easy to explore for kids. You can add items like cups and scoops as well.
But remember a sensory bin is a great place to just play for sensory needs.
Grab handfuls of the rice and colored acrylic rocks. You can talk about the colors in they see. Count the ones on top.
Scoop and Pour with the Sensory Bin
You can take handfuls of the rice and rocks and then pour them back into the bin. The sound the rice makes bouncing on the rocks is fun to hear and a little calming for some kids.
Sort the Colors Red, Green and Yellow
You can have kids sort the colors red, green, and yellow in the sensory bin. This is great for fine motor skill to pick up the colored rocks. It is also great for them to work on colors.
This is a great time again to talk about colors of apples.
Sort and Count Handfuls From the Sensory Bin
You can grab a handful of rice and acrylic rocks. You will need a tray close by and have them pour the handful out. You can count how many greens, reds, and yellows were in each handful. Then put it back in the sensory bin and do it again.

Remember To Have Fun With the Sensory Bin
And just remember this is for sensory bin. Don’t make it to be more if kids just need a time to play. And trust me sensory bins are fun!
And a note, sensory bins don’t just end with preschool and kindergarten. You can use them as long as kids like them!
And my teen still love sensory bins.
