Scarecrow Place Value Puzzles!
Puzzles are a great way to learn. I love adding them in when I can. a few years ago we did a double-digit adding puzzle and we loved it. I thought it would be fun to change this up for another type of math: place value.
Today’s scarecrow themed place value puzzles are a great way to work on taking numbers in word form and writing them in standard form. Then doing a puzzle that matches.
This is also a part of scarecrow week!

These puzzles come in two levels with tens and one or thousand, hundreds, tens and ones. That way you can have different ages of kids working on puzzles together. You can see the tens and one puzzle below. I have laminated both of the puzzles.

There are two recording sheets. These sheets have the numbers the kids will work on. You can see the number words and the space to write the standard form.

The set has a puzzle mat that can be used with both puzzles. It has the space to put the puzzle on. I have laminated the page and put wall putty
in the corners. It helps the puzzle stay in place as they make it.

Items to use with the Scarecrow Place Value Puzzles
This list is all the items we used the prepare all the printables or other items you might need with them.
How to use these Scarecrow Place Value Puzzles
I always set up the area they will work on. I put all the pieces together in the set up below. This makes it easy to do the puzzle while they write the answers or do the puzzle afterward.

My youngest likes to do the worksheet first and the puzzle afterward. You can do this any way that works for your kids.

She would match the puzzle number to the number on her paper. You can see that the numbers are in the corner. They will either be black of white color.

Then she placed the puzzle piece where it belonged on the puzzle mat. The wall putty helps the puzzle stay in place as you add more pieces.

If they have having problems with figuring out the number words then the place value bookmarks can help! They have the words written out with the numbers to match.
