What is Skip Counting?
Skip counting is working on adding the same number over and over. You have a pattern of adding or counting.
So if you skip counting by 3s, you have a pattern like, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 and so forth. These patterns can be repeated for many numbers.
Most often you skip count at least 12 times but you can skip counting more.

I always laminate the puzzles. This helps them last longer. I like to laminate them before cutting them out.

Preparing the Skip Counting Puzzle Mat
Another part of preparing the puzzles is the puzzle mat. This is a printable mat that you can use to help build the puzzles on. It has the space for the 10 pieces.
I like to laminate the mat and then put wall putty on it. This gives something for the puzzles to stick on.

Setting up a Puzzle Center
The school skip counting puzzles are great for learning centers. You can see below we are using the puzzle mat and one of the skip counting puzzles.
The mat has the putty and we are use one skip counting puzzle.
Building the Skip Counting Puzzle
You can see below we are starting on the skip counting puzzle. It has a starting number. You can tell kids what the starting number is. That might help them with building the puzzle.
You can tell them the skip counting number or have the guess the numbers. Younger kids might do better with just the starting puzzles and older kids will do better with the higher number puzzles.
You can see the puzzle finished below on the puzzle mat. The mats really do help kids know how many puzzle pieces and help with placing them as well.
You can ask them the skip counting patter on the puzzle and see what they say.
Mixed up Puzzle Center Idea
Another great idea is to mix up the puzzle on the puzzle mat. Then kids have to take the puzzle off the mat and them put the pieces in the right order.
Once they finish the puzzle they can mix up the puzzle for the next person to use.
