Sponge Painted Apple Tree

A sponge painting apple tree is a painting made by stamping sponges with paint on a piece of paper.

It is a simple apple craft for tots (ages 2 to 3), preschool (ages 3 to 4), prek (ages 4 to 5) and kindergarten (ages 5 to 6).

How we made the Sponge Painted Apple Tree

You will see the simple steps you can take to make a sponge painted apple tree.

Step One: Put the Sponges in Paint

You can put paint on a paint tray or a paper plate. You can see that we used a paper plate. We place the sponges in the paint.

If you have kids who don’t like getting fingers dirty, you can use a clothespin to hold the sponge.

Step Two: Paint the Trunk of the Apple Tree

A nice area to start is by painting the trunk. It gives you a space for where the top and bottom of the tree are. And let kids decide how far the tree goes up.

They can make a small apple tree or a big apple tree. You use the sponge in the brown paint to make the trunk of the apple tree.

As you paint the trunk of the apple tree it is okay if the sponge prints overlap each other.

Step Three: Paint the Green Top of the Apple Tree

After you finish the trunk it is time to make the top of the apple tree. You are going to use the sponge in the green paint for the top of the tree.

You can see that we make the outline of the leaves of the tree and then filled in the area with green paint.

Step Four: Paint the Grass Below the Apple Tree

You can also paint the grass at the bottom of the page. You can use green and go across the bottom of the page. Let kids decide how much green grass they want to make.

And this is an optional step. We did it because it looked like it would be fun to add onto the apple tree painting.

Step Five: Paint the Apples on the Tree

And finally you are going to paint the apple on the tree. You can see we stamped a few apples on the tree. We used red but you could use yellow or a lighter green for the color of apples as well.

This is a simple apple tree and kids will love it.

My kids who are teens now said that this looked like a Minecraft apple tree craft.
