This is a great addition to the cookie cutter activities and transportation crafts on the site.

I love when you can pair a book with our activity. A great book to use is Transportation!: How People Get Around. I love Gail Gibbons books. They are so much fun. You can learn all about different transportation types.

Making the Car and Plate Stencil

This is how I made templates used for the cars and planes from cookie cutters. I used the cookie cutters from the cookie cutters. It is my favorite set!

Trace the Cookie Cutter

You take the cookie cutter and then use a pencil and trace inside the cookie cutter making the car and plane shapes. I always make extra of them.

Cut out the Stencil of the Car and Airplane

You then use a small pair of scissors to cut put the inside of the tracing. You use small pointed scissors because it is easier to cut in small spaces. You can also use an exacto knife.

How we made the Transportation Painting

Drawing the Background

You draw a line for the road and the bushes. This is a great way to work on learning the size of the area for the road, bushes, and sky. If you have younger kids you can draw the lines for them.

Color the Cars with the stencil

You take the stencil and have them hold the stencil in place and color the space inside the car with oil pastel. You can use any color you want for the cars. Kids can be creative with their color choices. This works best with one solid color but does not mean you can’t mix colors.
