- watercolor paper
- watercolors
- pencil
- oil pastels
- graphite pencil 8B
- large paint brush

Making the Car and Plate Stencil
This is how I made templates used for the cars and planes from cookie cutters. I used the cookie cutters from the cookie cutters. It is my favorite set!
Trace the Cookie Cutter
You take the cookie cutter and then use a pencil and trace inside the cookie cutter making the car and plane shapes. I always make extra of them.

Cut out the Stencil of the Car and Airplane
You then use a small pair of scissors to cut put the inside of the tracing. You use small pointed scissors because it is easier to cut in small spaces. You can also use an exacto knife.

How we made the Transportation Painting
Drawing the Background
You draw a line for the road and the bushes. This is a great way to work on learning the size of the area for the road, bushes, and sky. If you have younger kids you can draw the lines for them.

Color the Cars with the stencil
You take the stencil and have them hold the stencil in place and color the space inside the car with oil pastel. You can use any color you want for the cars. Kids can be creative with their color choices. This works best with one solid color but does not mean you can’t mix colors.

Color the Planes with the stencil
You are going to repeat the process with the planes. You can color the plane white or silver. It all depends on what colors you want your plane to be.

Draw the Lines on the Road
You can use oil pastels to draw the lines on the road to make a two lane road. Super simple and easy to do.

Paint the Road Black with Watercolors
You take a big paintbrush and use watercolors to paint the road. The bottom part of the paper is going to be a black road. But you can let kids be creative the road could be any color they want.

Paint the Sky Blue
Next, we move to the sky and paint the sky blue. But really this could be a sunset picture as well! As you paint the sky you can see the planes in the sky.

Paint the Bushes Green
Finally, we painted the bushes or trees between the road and the sky. You can see we used green and this could be painting any way you want. You fill the area between the road and the sky.

Decorate the Planes & Cars
Finally you decorate the cars and planes. We used the graphite pencil 8B. It works wonders for coloring over the oil pastels coloring.
