Things You Could Prepare Ahead of Time
There are some of the things you could prepare ahead of time for younger kids. But know that older kids could do these steps.
Make the Brown Circles for the Turkey Body
We used a circle cookie cutter and trace the circle and then cut out the brown circles. If you are doing this ahead of time you can cut several circles at the same time.
If kids are doing this let them hold the cookie cutter and trace the circle and then cut the circle out out.

Cut out the Orange Beaks
You fold orange construction paper and then cut triangles out of the folded paper. You can have older kids do this step.

Punch Out the Circles
Then you are going to punch out small 5/8 circles for the turkey’s eyes. This step is easy for kids to do but if time is a limit of you don’t have any punches you can do in advance.
You could also skip the eyes and use wiggle eyes for crafts.

Draw Part of a Circle on the Watercolor Paper
You can draw a small circle on the watercolor paper. This is to help kids see where the weathers should be stamped around. It is a guide and you can skip this step if you want. But it does help.
You can have older kids trace the circle on their paper. Just have them put part of the 1/4 circle off the paper.

How We Made The Turkey Feather Scrape Painting
You can see the steps below that we used to make the Turkey Feather Scrape painting.
Step 1: Paint On Paper Plate Or Tray
You want to put the paint on the shape of the feathers. That makes it easier to make sure the edges of the cookie cutter are covered with paint.

Step 2: Stamping The Cookie Cutter On The Paper
You are going to start by stamping the cookie cutter on the paper. You want to make sure you have the whole cookie cutter on the paper. You want to try and angle the cookie cutter so it points at the circle at the bottom of the paper.

Step 3: Scrap the Feather on the Paper
Then you are going to take the cookie cutter and slide of scrape it along the paper. It is going to leave a fun trail of paint that is in the shape of the feather.

Step 4: Pick up Feather the Cookie Cutter & Look The The Turkey Feather On The Paper
After you finish sliding the cookie cutter pick it up off the paper. You can see that there is a shape of the feather and part of it is sliding on the paper. You will see some edges of the feather as well.

Step 5: Keep Scrape Painting Turkey Feathers On The Paper
You are going to keep scraping the feather cookie cutter on the paper. You can do a few of one color and then switch of doing all the colors at the same time.

You can see how as you add more colors and layers of feathers how it all looks different as you go.

And remember that each of the feathers can be at different spots around the circle on the bottom of the paper. And you can overlap the feather paintings as well.

Step 6: Glue on the Turkey Body
Next we glued on the body of the of turkey. This is the circle that we prepare ahead of time. You have kids put a little glue on the paper, because the paint will also help the head stay in place.

Step 7: Glue On the Eyes
We took the two white circles and used a black marker to make the eyes of the turkey. Then we glued them on the head.

Step 8: Glue on the Beak
Finally we glued on the beak of the turkey. And you can glue it on how ever kids want to. And that is okay.

This is so much fun to make with kids. And remember that if your turkeys look totally different that is okay. Every turkey is going to turn out differently.
