How we made the Winter Tree Painting
You will see the steps below that we used to make the winter tree painting.
Before you start painting you can show kids a picture of a tree covered in snow. You can have them talk about the tree they are looking at.

Step 1: Paint the Paper with Water
You are going to start with painting the top part of the paper with a light layer of water. This helps you with painting during the next step.

Step 2: Painting the Sky Blue
Next you are going to paint a blue sky in the area that you just did the water painting. The water on the paper helps spread out the blue color easier on the watercolor paper.
You can do side to side strokes or up and down. Do what works best for the age group dong the art project. You can see we did up and down to start abut did some later side to side with our painting. And you can see that the color varies on the paper.

Step 3: Painting the Bare Tree
Next we used black to paint our tree on the paper. You can start at the bottom with the trunk of the tree. This is where all the branches will spread out from.

You can see we added branches to the trunk of the tree. These can be thick or thin. You can lets kids decide what the size of the branches should be.

Older kids might have smaller branches and younger kids might have smaller branches. But let them decide how many and how much of the branches their should be.

Step 4: Painting Snow on the Tree with Cotton Swabs
The final we did was to paint the snow on the branches of the tree. You can do all the branches some of the branches. It depends on how much snow you want to add.
And let kids be creative with their painting.

You can also add a little of the white painting on the white part of the paper to add a little texture to the white and base of the tree. And it is a fun way to use up extra paint as well.
